The SpaChoice Sanitizing Granules are a chlorine-based product that provides a steady source of available chlorine to control algae growth, kill bacteria, and destroy organic contaminants in the water. These stabilized granules are designed to dissolve quickly and completely, ensuring the chlorine is evenly distributed throughout the hot tub. The chlorine is also protected against UV radiation from the sun, increasing its lifespan.

For start-up, 6 teaspoons of the chlorine granules are added per 500 gallons of water, and the free available chlorine (FAC) is checked and adjusted as needed to maintain a level of 4-5 ppm. During regular use, approximately 3 teaspoons per 500 gallons are scattered over the water's surface, with the FAC tested and additional product added to maintain a 1-3 ppm level. After each use, the hot tub is shock-treated with 9 teaspoons per 500 gallons to control odors and algae.

The SpaChoice Re-Energize Hot Tub Shock is a non-chlorine, oxidizing product that works in conjunction with the chlorine granules. It oxidizes organic contaminants such as ammonia, perspiration, and suntan lotion, and also removes chloramines and bromamines, which can cause "chlorine odor" and eye irritation. This product enhances the sanitizing effectiveness of the chlorine by reducing the formation of new chloramines and bromamines.

The directions for the Re-Energize Shock recommend adding 2 ounces per 300 gallons of water after every use, running the pump for at least 30 minutes, and turning the jets on and off once or twice to improve the treatment. This non-chlorine shock helps maintain the clarity of the spa water and reduces eye burn.

By using the chlorine granules and the non-chlorine shock together, the hot tub water is effectively sanitized, with the chlorine providing a steady source of available sanitizer and the shock oxidizing contaminants and enhancing the overall effectiveness of the chlorine.
